The Indian peacock is the national bird of India .The peacock Bird is mostly found all over the India. The peacock have A big religious place in Hinduism because the god Kartikeya [son of the Lord Shiva and Parvati and brother of Lord Ganesha] rides on its back. Legends hold that the peacock can charm snakes.
Peacock are found in dry forests In India and usually they live in small groups. The male peacock is more colourful than the female. The female have some brownish colour. This bird is a colourful and big sized bird having big feathers at the tale .It is fully protected under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The females Peahens [2.75 to 4.0 kg] weigh nearly as much as the males [4.0 to 6.0 kg] and they rarely exceed 1 meter in total body length.
The male peacock in the spring season not only displays his gorgeous and beautiful tail feathers, but also utters its famous call which is always a delight to hear. Peacock feathers are used in unique crafts and decorative items .The tail of the green peacock is exceptionally beautiful.
